From Seedling to Success: Our History

Founded in the Netherlands, Joyplant began as a small grower with a passion for houseplants. Over the years, we have expanded our expertise, evolving into a premium supplier known for high-quality, sustainable cultivation methods. 1930

Where It All Began

The story of Joyplant began in 1930, when Mr. Van Paassen started growing vegetables with dedication, craftsmanship, and a deep passion for horticulture. Working the land by hand, he built a reputation for producing healthy, high-quality crops while always putting reliability and customer satisfaction first. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence laid the foundation for a family business that would continue to evolve and grow through the generations. Nearly a century later, those same values remain at the heart of everything we do.

1955

The Next Generation

As the second generation, Henk van Paassen took over the family business with the same passion and determination. Looking ahead to new opportunities, he relocated the nursery to the Tuindersweg, where he specialised in growing cut chrysanthemums. His entrepreneurial vision and willingness to innovate laid the groundwork for the company’s future growth and the transition to the ornamental plant sector.

1995

The Third Generation

In 1995, brothers Loek and Patrick van Paassen, sons of Henk, joined the family business. Driven by curiosity and an entrepreneurial mindset, they cultivated a wide range of crops, including lilies, cyclamen, poinsettias, and many other ornamental plants. Constantly adapting to market demand, they gained valuable experience before making a clear strategic choice in 2018: to fully specialise in growing premium Aloe Vera and Rhipsalis.

2024

The Fourth Generation

In 2024, Sem van Paassen, son of Patrick, became a partner at Joyplant. In 2026, he took over Loek’s responsibilities and ownership, leading the company into its next chapter. Focused on innovation, sustainability, biological crop protection, and energy efficiency, he is helping shape the future of Joyplant while continuing its tradition of premium-quality plants. Building on nearly a century of family tradition, the fourth generation is leading Joyplant into the future combining innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
